Welcome to the World of Cypress

Cypress Wood has been know as the world’s ‘wood of choice’ for thousands of years.  Ancient Egyptians used it to craft their mummy cases; Medieval craftsmen used it for their beautifully carved cathedral doors; and still today, because of its distinct beauty, natural durability, and broad versatility, its popularity continues.
Cypress  has been traditionally grouped and manufactured with hardwoods and graded by the rules of the American Hardwood Association and the building industry holds Cypress Wood in high esteem as it is an exceptional wood to work with.  It has little tendency to warp, twist, or cup and is easily machined.  It planes and sands beautifully and though it is a resinous wood, it glues very well.  It also has outstanding nail holding ability.   Although it accepts nearly any  surface treatment available,  Cypress wood is readily complete.  Because of its natural preservative, unfinished, it simply  weathers to a silvery gray which in no way diminshes the structure of the wood.
Cypress Wood is a member of the Redwood (Giant Sequoia) family and possesses many of the same key characteristics such as lasting durability.  Its Cypressine oil offers a natural resistance to weather, decay, rot, mold, mildew, and insects making it an excellent outdoor wood for swings, trellises,  arbors, siding,  fencing, shutters, flower boxes, and landscape elements.   Cypress Wood was once used for water tanks, water troughs, and well casings; and many old Cypress barns, schoolhouses, and homes, built in the 1800‘s, are  standing yet today.  Cypress continues to be rated as  the most durable wood in America, and also one of the most beautiful.
Cypress Wood is easily identified by its handsome, straight grain and virtually knot free structure  earning it ’best of show’ for interior designs  in paneling, ceilings, counter tops,  tables, ceiling beams, and  fireplace mantles.
Its unmatched beauty, pronounced reputation of life long durability, and construction  friendliness enables Cypress to satisfy your every need.   From furniture to crafts,  finished or unfinished, indoors or outside, Cypress Wood is always your best choice!

The Cypress Wood Shop is a family owned company.  Our interest in Cypress originated from father, Fred Patterson, upon discovery of a saw log in the Bayou on our farm in southeast Arkansas.  This gigantic Cypress log intrigued dad, as he was raised in the lumber and timber industry where his father had been a tie maker in Doniphan, Missouri.
Employing our God given talents and abilities, we custom build per client specification - handmill, assemble, and even deliver in person when necessary.   From rustic to  contemporary styles, Cypress Wood Shop designs unique one of a kind products such as our line of outdoor furniture and accents.  With characteristics of distinct beauty, low maintenance, and natural durability,  you can never go wrong with Cypress!  TheCypress Woodshop is proud to say  .  .  .  made the American way in the U.S.A..
